MIP-1: MIP Purpose and Guidelines

Introduction

This Meta MIP establishes the Monad Improvement Proposal (MIP) process: the formal framework through which changes to the Monad protocol, its ecosystem standards, and its governance processes are proposed, discussed, and ratified.

Background

Modeled after Ethereum’s EIP-1 and adapted for Monad’s architecture, MIP-1 defines three proposal types (Standards Track, Meta, and Informational), the full proposal lifecycle from Draft through Final, header and formatting conventions, editorial responsibilities, and the role of network upgrade Meta MIPs. Monad-specific additions include the MRC (Monad Request for Comments) category for application-level standards, requirements for Core MIPs to specify which daemon (execution, consensus, or both) is affected, a codified process for named network upgrades (following the pattern established by MIP-6 / MONAD_NINE), and clear guidance on when to reference upstream Ethereum EIPs versus authoring standalone MIPs.

Sidebar

As a Living document, MIP-1 will evolve alongside the protocol. Feedback on the draft is welcome: in particular on the MIP editor selection process, the preferred discussion venue, and any additional Monad-specific conventions the community would like to see formalized.

perhaps this should be MIP-0?

MIP-1 was raise code size limit
